Twisting Lightbulb Animation
Project for 2024 Motion Design and Animation Certification at Parsons School of Design
Project Overview
This project involved creating a frame-by-frame animation using Adobe Animate as part of my ongoing Motion Design and Animation certification at Parsons School of Design.
The assignment required a hand-drawn design, and I chose to depict a twisting lightbulb. The result is a 2-second looping animation that gives the illusion of a lightbulb constantly being twisted.
Concept & Design
The concept for this animation was inspired by the dynamic motion and mechanical elegance of a twisting lightbulb. I aimed to capture the intricate details and fluid motion through hand-drawn variations.
Tools Used
Adobe Animate
Process
01
Idea Development
Conceptualized the motion of a lightbulb being twisted and how it could be effectively represented in a short animation.
03
Frame-by-Frame Animation
Used Adobe Animate to compile the drawings into a seamless 2-second animation.
02
Sketching
Created 12 hand-drawn variations of the lightbulb, each showing a progressive twist to illustrate the motion.
04
Looping Effect
Ensured that the end of the animation seamlessly transitions back to the beginning, creating a continuous twisting effect.
Key Skills Developed
-
Hand-drawn animation techniques
-
Frame-by-frame animation
-
Seamless looping through Adobe Animate
Outcome
The final animation successfully captures the fluid motion of a twisting lightbulb. The 2-second loop creates a mesmerizing effect, making it appear as if the lightbulb is perpetually twisting back and forth. This project not only demonstrated my ability to create detailed hand-drawn animations but also showcased my skills in frame-by-frame animation using Adobe Animate.
